Abstract

The need for a special issue on the status of English language research in the Middle East and North African region (MENA) has long been needed and awaited.

Author Biographies

Sahbi Hidri, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of Tunis

Sahbi Hidri is an assistant professor of applied linguistics at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of Tunis, Tunisia. His research interests include language assessment, testing & evaluation, assessment literacy, test-taking strategies, statistics, measurement, specs validation, SLA and dynamic assessment. Dr Hidri has also authored two entries (Item analysis and Discrete vs. integrative testing) in TESOL International Encyclopaedia of English Language Teaching, some book chapters on dynamic assessment of reading and speaking. He edited books on Evaluation in Foreign Language Education, Revisiting the Assessment of Language Skills and Teaching Research in the Middle East and North Africa.

Salah Troudi, Graduate School of Education, University of Exeter, Uk

Salah Troudi is an academic at the Graduate School of Education of the University of Exeter where he is the director the Doctorate in TESOL in Dubai and the supervisory coordinator of the PhD in TESOL. His teaching and research interests include language teacher education, critical issues in language education, language policy, curriculum development and evaluation, and classroom-based research. He has published articles in several language education journals and edited a number of books.

Christine Coombe, Dubai Men's College

Christine Coombe has a PhD in Foreign/Second Language Education from The Ohio State University.  She is an Assistant Professor of General Studies at Dubai Men’s College.  Christine served as President of the TESOL International Association from 2010 to 2013 and is the recipient of the 2018 James E Alatis Award for exemplary service to TESOL.  She has published many books and journal articles in the areas of assessment, leadership, research literacy, teacher effectiveness and task-based teaching and learning.
